About Us

Merit is a privately held, owner managed company established in 1991 by its current shareholders, Michael Merrithew and Louise de Grandpré. Since 1991, Merit has grown to become the largest privately held specialty travel company in Canada. Last year, Merit served over 100,000 travellers with a staff of over 250 located at more than a dozen offices across Canada.

Merit is comprised of five major business units:

MeritBiz® – From offices in downtown Toronto and Montreal; plus a Team of experienced Consultants across Canada, MeritBiz® simplifies the daunting world of Business Travel by designing and delivering customized travel management solutions for corporations and organization across Canada. Our client list includes Deloitte LLP, National Bank Financial, Wardrop Engineering, The Hay Group, Flakeboard Company, GMP Capital, Munich Reinsurance and Saatchi & Saatchi to name a few. Merit Specialty Vacations – Offers customized golf, ski, scuba diving and small ship cruise packages for individuals and groups. Each member of the Merit Specialty Team is experienced in their respective field – Merit Golf Consultants are golfers, Merit Ski Consultants are skiers – all of them having experienced the destinations and resorts they represent.  Merit Specialty also offers its own “Long stay” packages for those fortunate enough to be able to get away for extended periods during our cold Canadian winters, unique tours to Prague and the Czech Republic and Greece and works with other top tour operators to offer escorted tours and packages elsewhere on the globe. As a Merit Affiliate, High Road Golf Expeditions is also a proud member of this group.

Merit Odyssey – Our retail division, Merit Odyssey has acquired and re-branded well-run, profitable retail agencies in select cities across Canada; staffed with experienced Travel Consultants to deliver a strong local service presence in the community and as a channel to market Merit’s own unique products and services.

Merit Loyalty Group – From call centres in Mississauga and Montreal, Merit Loyalty Group operates affinity travel programs for major clients including CIBC Visa, CARP (Canadian Association for the Fifty-Plus), RTO/ERO (Retired Teachers of Ontario) and select alumni associations across Canada. Its Affiliate, Baraka Tours has been leading escorted groups to Asia for alumni associations for over fifteen years.
